On the BBC Radio 4 Today programme Secretary of State for International Development, Andrew Mitchell, talked about the reasons for Britain being involved in operations in Afghanistan, saying we were in Afghanistan for reasons of national security, adding that we must work in conjunction with aid agencies and our allies to sustain a long period of development which would ensure we make long term gains in security. The Financial Times reports that a study by the Royal United Services Institute into future reductions in the Defence Budget says that the UK may have to cut its Armed Forces by at least 25 per cent in less than a decade. The Daily Telegraph reports that the UK is in talks with France to share the cost of aircraft refuelling tankers as part of plans to cut defence spending. The Independent reports that business schools in Britain and the rest of Europe have seen a rise in students from the Armed Forces taking MBA courses to better prepare for life in the corporate world.
